Community Matters to New View Realty

Partner Highlight: Kathy Toomey and New View Realty

Kathy Toomey, owner of New View Realty, is known for being community-minded. Over the years, she and her company have been sponsors of many Tryon area events; Summer Tracks, Tryon Arts and Crafts School festivals, Tryon Beerfest, and Tryon International Film Festival, to name a few. When asked to partner with the Gardening for Life Project to help bring Doug Tallamy to town, she did not hesitate.

As a realtor, Kathy is well aware that one of the main reasons people are drawn to this area is because of its incredible natural beauty. She also knows that living in one of the most richly bio-diverse areas of the country requires a huge responsibility to protect what we have here. She hopes that Doug Tallamy’s presentation will give her more tools to persuade home owners to enhance their own newly acquired property in a careful and meaningful way.

Kathy is particularly interested in the Homegrown National Park concept and its simple message of creating a habitat friendly environment in your own yard. When asked if she is a dedicated gardener, she laughingly tells of her constant battle with invasive ivy and kudzu in her own yard…a daunting problem that many face in this area. She sees Doug Tallamy as a major cheerleader, encouraging her to keep up the good fight to protect this beautiful part of the world. She also hopes to spread the word to her clients and friends about the importance of planting thoughtfully, in a way that embraces the connectivity of all living things.
