Update 3.25.25: GFLP Spring Native Plant Sale
Update: Event Cancelled as of 3/25/25
We are very sad to report that our spring plant sale has been cancelled due to concerns about air quality and fire dangers in our region.
Please help us to spread the word.
The NCFS reported the following status of fires in Polk County, as of March 24th, and these numbers continue to grow:
The Black Cove Fire spans 2,813 acres and is at 0% containment.
The Deep Woods Fire is at 2,742 acres and is at 0% containment.
The Fish Hook Fire, is at 199 acres and 69% containment.
Weather forecast shows little chance of rain into the weekend, along with continued dry air and winds. We are currently under Red Flag Fire Warnings and Code Red Air Quality alerts.

Gardening for Life Project is hosting its Spring Native Plant Sale, an event dedicated to promoting the use of native plants in sustainable gardening and furthering the efforts to restore biodiversity in our region.
The timing could not be better as cooped up gardeners long for the warmer weather and gentle rains of Spring in the Carolina Foothills.
The event is Friday, March 28, 3-7 p.m., at the Harmon Field Outdoor Gym, 117 Harmon Field Road, Tryon, N.C.
Attendees will be able to purchase everything from perennial seedlings to small trees, with all plants being native to our region.
The vendor list includes some of our area’s finest growers and includes Saturnia Farms, Blue Oak Horticulture, Flower Moon Nursery, Milkweed Meadows, Tanager Plants, Sorrell’s Lawncare and Nursery and Natural Selections Nursery, Bells Creek Wildflower Farm.
Please join us in supporting our native plant growers and educators, many of whom suffered great losses from the wrath of Tropical Storm Helene.
Because the sale takes place under cover, this is a rain or shine event.
Customers are encouraged to use cash as not all vendors can accept credit cards.
It’s always a great idea to bring cardboard boxes to help transport plants home safely
If you’d like to get some ideas for great native plant species to add to your garden this spring see our Habitatscaping page. There you can find a selection of keystone natives (ones that have the highest wildlife value) for our area.
