Pints for Pollinators

1.27.24 Post Update:

Thanks one and all for coming out to support this gathering. If you missed it (not to worry) there will be more. We look forward to continuing the conversations after the 3.30.24 GFL Celebration.

Please join us for the inaugural Pints for Pollinators event Thursday night, January 25, 6 p.m., at Bodega Noir in Landrum, S.C.

This conservation conversation features two short talks, each followed by a Q&A session. The topic for the January gathering is β€œAre Invasive Plants Taking Over Your Yard?” The format for the evening: two short talks followed by Q&A and lively conversation.

  • Invasive Plant ID and Removal

Are invasive plants taking over your yard?  Come learn about the most effective approaches for removing invasive plants.  As Kudzu is so prevalent in our area, more detailed information on Kudzu will be provided. Come meet and talk with individuals with hands on experience fighting invasive plants, as well, as others who share an interest in improving our natural world.

  • Plant This, Not That - Native Plant Alternatives to Invasive Species

Recent studies point to nursery sales and, in turn, home gardens being the primary contributors to the introduction and spread of invasive plants in the U.S. We can all do our part to help reduce this problem by requesting native plant alternatives from our local garden centers. Most retail nurseries are happy to stock, or order, plants upon request. But which plants are invasive and what can we plant instead? This will be a crash course on the biggest invasive offenders and some great native species to plant instead.

Guests will have plenty of time in this informal setting to meet like-minded folks for discussion and socialization.

Bodega Noir is a wine bar and event space located at 102 W. Coleman Street, Landrum, behind the Hot Spot. Beer and wine will be available.

Pints for Pollinators is brought to you by the Gardening For Life Project Team and is inspired by the international organization Pint of Science. Stay tuned for information on future conservation conversation gatherings.
